Centre for Life Skills Education (CLSE), Kristu Jayanti college and
Rajiv Gandhi National Institution of Youth, Chennai; jointly organized a
life skill training for the first year degree students from June 16,
2016 to June 22, 2016. The course was attended by 1500 under-graduate
students who were divided into 22 batches. The certificate course
consists of ten core skills namely self- awareness, empathy, creative
thinking, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, effective
communication, inter-personal relations, stress management and coping
with emotions. These skills are very beneficial in constructing and
polishing the personality of the students.
Dr. Jonas Richard, Director, Centre for Life Skills Education, Kristu Jayanti College said that the classes aim to help students to be happy in life and also to adapt different life skills and respond positively to the demands of everyday life. Lecture Series (ILS) for the post-graduate (PG) students on June 27,
2016 at Kristu Jayanti College. Dr. Justin Paul, Professor, University
of Puerto Rico, USA addressed the students on current perspectives of

Indian economy has welcomed Foreign Direct Investment(s) and fueled the
growth of development in the country,” said Dr. Justin. Illustrating
with examples of various economies like China and Korea, he also
explained the need for the acceptance of globalization in current
business environment to adapt to the present global economic market.

International Yoga day
Keeping in mind the global wellbeing, an awareness program was organized in Kristu Jayanti College as part of Yoga day on 21 June 2016. Swami Charanashrit spoke about the importance of Yoga in day to day life and the three stages involved in it, the Asana, Pranayama and Dhyana. The one and half hour session focused on Asanas , and around 300 students comprising of NSS, CSA and NCC volunteers practiced yoga with the expert. Rev. Fr. Josekutty PD, Principal, Rev Fr. Augustine George, Vice Principal, Prof. Sarvesh S, Faculty Coordinator, were also present.
It was an astonishing moment to see around three hundred students take a stage at the quadrangle of Kristu Jayanti college and take part in various ‘Asanas’ and meditations. “Yoga helps the younger generation to reduce the stress and focus on what is important in their life. It also enhances their self-awareness and act as a stress coping mechanism. This awareness program was organized to fulfil this purpose,” said Dr. Jonas Richard, Head of the Department of Social Work.
“I felt Yoga helps to promote a balanced and healthy life. A few minutes of yoga during the day can be a great way to get rid of stress,” said Rosemol, Second Year Post Graduate student in Mass Communication and Journalism.
